Welcome!

On behalf of the Business Administration department at Los Angeles Valley College, welcome to Accounting 1.

This course is designed to provide you with fundamental skills needed to perform accounting for service and merchandising businesses.The class will emphasize recording business transactions and preparing financial statements. Specific topics include but are not limited to learning and performing steps of the accounting cycle and accounting for cash, accounts receivable, inventory, plant assets, various types of liabilities, and payroll. I look forward to offering you a fun and rewarding educational experience!

What to Expect...

This class is set up to be an online course. All class assignments, activities, quizzes, and tests will be offered online through the use of publisher software CNowv2 (also refer to as Cengage or CengageNowv2) which has been integrated with Canvas. Class participation is very important and attendance will be taken each week. Attendance is based on whether you are making weekly entry into Canvas and whether you are making weekly progress on Cengage Assignments. I look forward to working together to improve our skills and build community with one another.

Please complete these FIVE tasks before the end of the first week of class:

Read and work through the Welcome and Cengage Module
Read the Syllabus, Course Schedule, Netiquette, Instructor Information
Set your Canvas notification preferences so you do not miss any announcements or emails
Register into Cengage (CNowv2 or CengageNow v2) using the "Access Cengage" link under the Cengage Module
Complete Success Orientation assignment on Cengage

Most of your assignments and due dates for the semester are available by reviewing the Cengage Assignment Page (first page once your sign into Cengage).

It is critical that I have accurate contact information for you. Unless I hear from you otherwise, I will be contacting you using the email address used in your Canvas profile. Check your email account regularly for updated information.

If an office hour for another section works better for you or if you want to attend a second office hour, please send me an email via Canvas Inbox 2 hours before the meeting time and I will send you the appropriate Zoom link.
