Most foundations/funders require an essay or application. Foundations/funders generally want to know about the student's background and what are their financial needs. Generally, your writing should not focus on negative experiences, but talk about how you have overcome those adverse life circumstances and what personal assets you have developed due to those circumstances and talk about what financial assistance you need to continue your journey to success.

Connect with the writing center on campus to have someone there edit your essay before sending it. Otherwise, have someone read and edit your paper for any mistakes. In most cases, you can send the same essay to several foundations/funders. They are not all connected, nor do they necessarily care that you are using the same essay more than once. Your story is your story, no matter how many different people read it. Please submit your essay on the form provided or according to the instructions.
