For today's lab, we are going to simulate some of the evolutionary mechanisms in populations. The lab manual describes the simulation we would be doing in the lab, and reading the lab will give you some good background information. You may even wish to try the simulation on your own (M&Ms or Skittles make good substitutes for the beads described in the lab!). However, in our remote learning modality we are going to do a great online simulation instead.
In our simulation, you'll be watching a population of koi fish in a pond and recording how allele frequencies change under different conditions. These fish have two alleles for body color: R and r. See the table below for the possible genotypes and phenotypes in the population.
