Feeling and imagination Drawing

Prompt

After you have completed the concept mapping use this imagination drawing exercise to help you to start exploring graphic ideas to solidify what this design will look like.

First practice with the terms that are included below, and then try to use the concepts, metaphor etc that you came up with in the boxes as well.

For this type of drawing the rules are as follows:

  • Read the word.
  • Think back to the last time you felt what this word describes.
  • Without labeling the event or remembering the reason, feel within yourself what it was like.
  • Imagine feeling the emotion again.
  • Feel it flow first from deep inside, then into your arm, down into your hand, and into your pencil, where it emerges from the point of the pencil to record itself in marks that are equivalent to the feeling— marks that look like the felt emotion.
  • The marks do not need to be made all at once. They can be adjusted, changed or erased if necessary to achieve an image of the emotion that seems to fit the emotion as it feels to you.
  • No symbolic language
  • Do not try to picture the image that you draw, try to just let it flow from the feeling out of your arm.

Here is an example and the blank form is uploaded below.
