II. ELAC Academic Senate AB 1705 Actions and Activities
Academic Senate 5/23/2023 Recommendation Download Academic Senate 5/23/2023 Recommendation M/S/P 5/23/2023, Academic Senate Meeting
In light of recent events, the ELAC Academic Senate, in support of the English and Math Departments, makes the following recommendations related to AB 1705 Implementation, on May 23, 2023.

- The ELAC Academic Senate urgently recommends that the college, working affected departments and district partners, update course offerings and student enrollment processes to ensure easy access to pre-transfer level instruction for students who are permitted such instruction under the Ed Code.
- The ELAC Academic Senate, upon request of the English or Math discipline faculty, approves updating the college’s placement guidelines for subjects to require students with lower GPAs to take a corequisite support course with their transfer course if data demonstrates a higher throughput rate for those students than for lower GPA students not taking the corequisite support course.
- The ELAC Academic Senate authorizes the Academic Senate President to sign off on the college’s Equitable Placement, Support and Completion Funding Plan Links to an external site. on the condition that it is developed with the input of discipline faculty and that it gives top priority to (1) faculty release time to design, implement, and evaluate corequisite transfer-level mathematics/quantitative reasoning and English courses at scale; (2) professional development for faculty, including subject pedagogy, classroom climate, and corequisite implementation, including evaluation and iterative improvement of the effectiveness of the professional development; and (3) for the creation, implementation, and evaluation of concurrent supports or support services to increase throughput rates for transfer-level mathematics/quantitative reasoning and English courses.
- The ELAC Academic Senate authorizes the Curriculum Committee and Articulation Officer to take measures necessary to satisfy CCCCO Required Actions for AB1705 by September 1, 2023 Links to an external site..
