Brown Act & Academic Senate Meetings

The Academic Senate is a public governing body that is bound to the Brown Act (California General Code 54952) that governs the operation of open meetings.  The Brown Act stipulates that agendas of all open meetings be posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting.   Meeting agendas are posted on the Academic Senate SharePoint and are publicly posted. Discussion in committee meetings is limited to items on the agenda. Any exceptions require approval of the committee in accordance with the Brown Act and Robert’s Rules of Order. Public comment takes place at the beginning of each meeting to provide interested individuals the opportunity to address the Senate  No discussion or debate can occur during oral communication.
