Institutionally, LATTC has two areas supporting faculty learning about online teaching: Faculty Development and the Distance Education department. Workshops are also available through the Vision Resource Center (VRC). Additionally, some academic departments provide class shells, resources, mentoring, structured professional development, and/or other forms of support to faculty teaching online - be sure to check with your department chair.
This page primarily details the structure through which faculty receive professional learning support for online teaching at LATTC.
Faculty Development
The Faculty Development coordinator oversees LATTC's Flex program, which provides faculty workshops as well as the structure which enables faculty to document their required hours for completing Flex activities. For example, check out an extensive set of recorded workshopsLinks to an external site. coordinated by LATTC Online Education.
View the PDP FAQLinks to an external site. and join the PDP Canvas siteLinks to an external site. to learn more about PDP and FLEX, and to participate in a variety of discussions about all manner of topics important to faculty. And be on the lookout for emails and other communication from Aaron Roberts, LATTC's current PDP coordinator.
Vision Resource Center (VRC)
The VRC is accessed through PeopleSoft. This is where we enter our Flex hours. It is also the central location for district and statewide workshops. The easiest way to find a workshop that interests you is to click on the calendar and search there. If you need to take the Introduction to Teaching with Canvas (ITC) and the Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning (IOTL) to become certified, you will find them here.
Distance Education
We offer online and in-person workshops through Flex, as well as individual and group consultation and support with faculty as needed. Check out our Online Learning website for tons of resources related to online teaching, Canvas, and other technologies supported for your use at LATTC. For all the details related to ways to get help with Canvas, please refer to the LATTC Canvas Support Resources page from earlier in this handbook.
