ePortfolio Introduction
So what is an ePortfolio?
An academic ePortfolio is a digital collection created by a student of their course-related work, like essays, posters, photographs, videos, and artwork; academic ePortfolios can also capture other aspects of a student’s life, such as volunteer experiences, employment history, extracurricular activities, and more. In other words, ePortfolios document and make visible student learning. But a good ePortfolio should be more than just a collection of products. It also captures and illustrates the complete learning process of a student.
Without requiring any previous coding experience any student can easily learn to create an ePortfolio website.
There are several benefits for students, providing a unique way to demonstrate individual creativity:
- To instructors
- To prospective employers
- To 4-year college recruiters
An ePortolio is also a way to access and import documents across courses, as well as document skills and specific project achievements.
An ePortfolio may contain all or some of the following:
- Files of various formats (text, pictures, video, etc.)
- Evidence related to courses taken, programs of study, etc.
- Writing samples (which might include several drafts to show development and improvement)
- Projects prepared for class or extracurricular activities
- Evidence of creativity and performance
- Evidence of extracurricular or co-curricular activities, including examples of leadership
