For this assignment you will watch the film "Babies." You can view the film on the Pierce Library webpage here: https://library.piercecollege.edu/c.php?g=418620&p=4488464 (Links to an external site.) Links to an external site.
You will need your Pierce portal user name and password to sign into the library page.
You will use this observation format to complete the assignment.
For this assignment students will watch the movie “Babies” and take notes.
Choose one infant in the movie to observe and analyze. You will submit a paper using the question/answer format (list the question and give your response). Note: This is a 30 point assignment; therefore, you must add more detail and examples than a 10 point discussion. Please be mindful of this so that your grade is not impacted.
Part 1: Identify one infant to observe
Names of the children: Ponijao/Namibia, Bayarjargal/Mongolia, Mari/Tokyo, Hattie/San Francisco
- Who did you observe? Why did you choose this child?
- Who are the main people involved in the child’s life?
- Describe the infant's temperament.
- Describe the child's environment.
Part 2: Write down key notes about what you have observed about the child during their first year of life. Consider the child's physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional areas of development. Be sure to reference our text and/or any relevant module content (please see chapters 4, 5, 6).
- What did you notice about the child's physical development?
- What did you notice about the child's cognitive development?
- What did you notice about the child's language development?
- What did you notice about the child's social and emotional development?
Part 3: "Nature vs. Nurture"
- What did you notice about the different parenting/family environments and the impact to the child's development? Please give specific examples.
- What did you find fascinating or interesting?
- Who would you recommend to view this video?
