Reading and Listening - HF Ch. 5-9

Reading assignment this week:

Read chapters 5-9 of HF (Hidden Figures).

Listen to Reading sign showing student listening to recording

Pay attention to the following:

  • There will be a Quiz this week on these chapters and an assignment after the quiz to discuss what you have Learned after reading 5-9.
  • You can find recordings of Prof. Ray reading each chapter below. She also stops and talks about what things mean to her while she is reading. I hope you can listen for fluency and pronunciation but also to work on your metacognitive reading skills.

It would be a good idea to follow these steps while you are reading/listening:

1. Read each chapter and listen to her recordings below as you read. This will help your fluency, pronunciation, and rhythm.

2. Then read each chapter again without listening to her recordings. Try to read out loud to practice pronunciation and fluency.

3. Mark your text! Keep track of what stands out to you by underlining or writing in the margins of the pages.  Make notes if you wish in a separate notebook. Add new words to your Vocabulary Journal.

Here are the recordings of her reading each chapter. She reads and stops to explain some parts. Very good listening skill.
