Using Original Sources - Quoting and Paraphrasing Outside Material

This week's lessons in Great Writing 5 textbook will be based on Unit 3 (pages 48-58) - using original sources.

                                                                                                   

You will want to practice how to quote from text using "quotation marks" and to paraphrase outside material in your own essay. Some of you have practiced this before, and some of you may not have the experience. 

                                                                          

This Unit covers four ways to bring in outside material into your own essay: Direct quotation, paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing.

This semester, you will practice quoting and paraphrasing and you will use the book Hidden Figures. Papers #2,  #3 and Final Exam will contain quotes and paraphrases. This does not apply to your current paper #1.

In this module, you are going to practice the first two: 

• Direct Quotation
• Paraphrasing

Plus, you will learn how to write a Works Cited page.
