To introduce the course this week lets introduce ourselves to one another. Let's start off with a simple icebreaker.
Instructions:
Respond to this discussion prompt by Friday night 11:59pm. Please type the following in the Reply (Links to an external site.) box:
- Please introduce yourself to the class.
- Provide three statements (life details) that will tell us more about who you are; but, include one that isn't true.
- In addition, include why you are taking the course, and what you expect to get out of it.
Please reply to at least two of our classmates' posts. Try to guess which one of your classmates statements is false by asking questions. You may also discuss how your expectations for the course are similar or vary. \
As an example let me start the process:

Hi I'm professor Brian K. Gamble. I'm originally from a little town called Sumter (pronounced SUMP-TER) South Carolina. I was born and raised there. I moved out to LA in 2005. I have taught in the LACCD district since 2008 and taught simultaneously as an adjunct professor at LA Harbor College (LAHC) and Santa Monica College for till 2015. I started as the full-time physics instructor at LA Southwest Community College (LASC) in 2015. Currently I teach full-time at LASC and as adjunct at LAHC.
I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid which influenced me to major in physics. My educational background is as follows: The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina - BS Physics ('86); North Carolina State University - MS Physics ('92) and Clemson University PhD. - Physics ('02).
Here are my three details:
1. I have done some professional acting working in independent film and some television movies since the mid 90's. I once had a role in a film opposite Steven Segal in which my character double crosses and shoots Segal's character.
2. I play guitar, sing and write songs. Stylistically I lean toward singer-songwriter, pop/country. I got my first real instrument when I was 6 years old; it was the classic Stella Harmony Guitar with the famed sunburst finish.
3. I have a ticket to travel to space in the Virgin Galactic Links to an external site. space airline now being built by Richard Bronson in New Mexico. We'll be wearing space-suits provided by Under Armor Links to an external site..
