Course Description:
This course provides students with the basic information about the targeted industry and sectors they are focused on for their career; including essential facts, key institutions, history, career pathways and trends. This course provides students with the basic research and networking skills to become well-informed job seekers so they can effectively prepare for their career and become employed.
Course Objectives:
1. Discuss and evaluate post-secondary options for them to further their education and training for their desired careers.
2. Evaluate own career interests and skills using one or more existing assessment tools.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of tools and processes for career exploration.
4. Identify and list major corporations and institutions that make up the targeted industry.
5. Describe and present the overall health and growth of targeted industry and sector.
6. List and describe updated workplace and labor market trends for targeted industry.
7. Develop and maintain an updated resource list related to workplace and labor market trends consisting of both online and print materials.
8. Demonstrate use of a variety of technologies to conduct an online job search.
9. Collect information and evaluate the following information about targeted/desired careers:
full range of workplace opportunities, expectations for opportunities in that field in the future, the responsibilities of the job, requirements of the position, the paths that exist for getting to these positions.
10. Identify key professional and industry organizations in targeted field to who can serve as resources in students’ career research and job search.
11. Compare job/career requirements and responsibilities with own strengths, assets, weaknesses and preferences.
12. Discuss and evaluate post-secondary options for them to increase their knowledge, skills, training and education for their desired/targeted careers.
13. Formulate an action plan to address any deficiencies, if any, and pursuit of the career path.
14. Evaluate components and student's ability to realistically complete personal career action plan.

Student Conduct:
Academic Integrity
Violations of academic integrity include, but are not limited to, the following actions: cheating on an exam, plagiarism, working together on an assignment, paper or project when the instructor has specifically stated students should not do so, submitting the same term paper to more than one instructor, or allowing another individual to assume one’s identity for the purpose of enhancing one’s grade.

Disruption of classes or college activities is prohibited and will not be tolerated. Refer to the catalog and the Standards of Student Conduct in the Schedule of Classes for more information.
Recording Devices
State law in California prohibits the use of any electronic listening or recording device in a classroom without prior consent of the instructor and college administration. Any student who needs to use electronic aids must secure the consent of the instructor. If the instructor agrees to the request, a notice of consent must be forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for approval (WLAC College Catalog).

The WLAC Library provides instruction on how to use the online catalog, periodical and research databases. In addition to a large collection of books, periodicals and videos the WLAC Library has course textbooks which students may use while in the Library. Web access is available in LIRL as well as meeting rooms. The upper floors provide a beautiful view ideal for study (WLAC College Catalog).

All students are referred to and strongly encouraged to utilize FREE small group and individual tutoring available in our Learning Resource Center, 1st floor of the HLRC building. The LRC is transforming and expanding its services to include dedicated study group sessions with a tutor for specific courses at specific days and times (before and after class). Please let us know what classes you want tutoring for and the days and times you want it at.

Title IX
Title IX (of the 1972 Education Amendments) protects students and staff alike from discrimination based on sex, including Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault, which are forms of Sexual Misconduct.
