In Rosemead, California, there are a wide variety of Wraparound Mental Health Services provided by various private, state and federal sources. They include a 24-hour, seven days a week provider of in-home caregiver services to seniors living in the communities of Crestwood, Lone Pine, and Walnut Creek; a full service provider of in-home caregiver services including but not limited to: personal care, emotional support, social care, crisis intervention and referral to treatment services, direct client supervision, daily assistance with daily activities, and lastly a full schedule of five (5) hour long psychotherapy consultations for clients who require such treatment. All services are provided by licensed professional caregivers certified through the National Association of Home Care Providers (NAHCPC) who are also members of the American Psychological Association and the Information Society.

Among the most important components of wraparound mental health services is the Case Management Team. The case management team is comprised of two (2) or more case managers who rotate on a monthly basis. The team members consist of licensed social workers and psychologists. In addition to the case managers, the service provider may also have specially trained care givers and /or therapists. These professionals serve as the primary contact for both the client and the provider of wraparound services at each stage of the process.

One of the major roles of the case manager is to provide the necessary therapeutic support required by the client in conjunction with the appropriate medical services. This therapeutic support involves several components. First, the case manager coordinates with the doctor, therapist and other medical staffs to identify any medically related issues, which may include but are not limited to: substance abuse or dependence, depression, dementia, etc. Once this information has been collected, the wraparound mental health therapy team then begins to develop an intervention plan that will address these issues and concerns. The primary goal of the intervention is to create a therapeutic environment that is supportive of the client's needs and the progress of their wraparound therapy. Additionally, the intervention team helps the client to make adjustments to their overall lifestyle that are designed to promote wellness.

Another function of the wraparound mental health services is to offer adolescents a safe environment in which to deal with the emotional and behavioral issues that are contributing to their difficulties. Many adolescents go through a period of self-discovery and adjustment during which they are able to discover and identify their personal strengths and weaknesses, in addition to their strengths and limitations. This process can be facilitated by the offering of wraparound therapy by the service provider. The intervention team helps to provide the necessary supportive environment in which the adolescent is able to make these discoveries.

As part of the wraparound services program, the wraparound services also assist the program with their billing and program fee schedules. A portion of the program fee schedule goes towards the costs of wraparound mental health services and the services' support staff. The balance of the program fee schedule is set aside for the specific services provided by the wraparound services program. For example, if the wraparound program provides in-home consultations with the adolescents and their families, a portion of the program fee schedule will be allocated towards the actual delivery of those services by the wraparound services.

Wraparound therapy has a number of benefits for the adolescents who need it. It offers adolescents the opportunity to receive wraparound therapy without having to move into an inpatient treatment facility. It provides them access to professionals who are skilled in the art of psychological assessment and clinical supervision. It also provides them with the opportunity to be involved in their own treatment through their individualized program of therapy and counseling. Finally, it allows them to receive treatment without the stigma that is often associated with inpatient psychiatric treatment.
